Overview

Health is a fundamental right of every human being. WHO has defined health as a state of complete physical, social and mental well being and not merely absence of disease or infirmity. The integration of the social aspects of health and disease in theory, practice and teaching led to the birth of Preventive & Social Medicine (PSM) or Social & Preventive Medicine (SPM). Recently it has been renamed as Community Medicine. It is a specialty of medicine concerned with disease prevention and health promotion among individuals, families and communities. The community medicine curriculum is taught throughout the undergraduate period including the internship. The subject contents mainly focus upon Basic and Applied Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Demography, Environmental and Occupational Health, Sociology, Family Health, Health Promotion, Health education, Community Diagnosis and Health Research. This subject educates undergraduate students regarding health problems of the community, various national health programs and policies and primary health care approaches so that in future they become primary care physicians who understand the health problems of the community properly and can contribute effectively for improvement of the health of community and country.

Facilities

All the national health programs are run at the centers in collaboration with Govt. Health Sector as well.
